This archaeological area includes some of the most important building for the history of Wadi Ramm, along the important trade route through which goods from the Indian Ocean and the Hejaz reached the countries on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea.
The Temple of the goddess Allat, erected by the Nabataeans during the 1st century a. D., connected to the Sacred Spring of ‘Ain Shellaleh, was the religious barycentre of a more complex settlement located at the foot of Jebel Ramm. A Nabataean dwelling complex is located behind the temple and further East a residential building was reused in Roman time, probably as the quarter of an army commander. All these buildings seem to have been abandoned within the Late Roman-Early Byzantine period.
